A couple of weeks ago, Daddy posted an announcement on Facebook that he was leaving social media. I had agreed to have my picture made with him in a previous congratulatory moment and didn’t realize that it would be subverted for such a controversial purpose. I feel a little bit like Taylor Swift did after the presidential debate and thought I’d better set the record straight on my choices.
I did NOT have anything to do with Daddy’s decision and I have very cordial feelings toward all my friends on Facebook.
Now Daddy has very good reasons to leave social media behind. For example, I feel like he spends too little time with me. So, “quality time with Mia” is a very, very good reason to rearrange his time. Also, I’m not totally sure that Daddy wasn’t an underworld crime boss when he was younger and limiting public exposure seems like a good precautionary move.
But I’m not here to defend Daddy. Knowing that this Note from Casa de Togo is the last one that will be promoted on Facebook, I highjacked the publishing process this week. I wanted my Facebook friends to know that I am totally blameless.1
I did appreciate Daddy including a link to my Notes from Casa de Togo on Substack in his announcement so that we could continue being friends after he completely deserted his Facebook friends. However, Daddy’s promotion of that link was totally lacking.
So here it is again:
If you want to continue to read my Notes and an occasional one from Daddy about my adventures and the unbelievably fantastic happenings here at Casa de Togo, you need to subscribe at togo.substack.com. It’s completely free and you’ll get my Notes in your email inbox. If you decide you don’t want to receive those emails at any time,2 you can just unsubscribe.
So, if you haven’t already, click on the link above and subscribe! I promise to do my best to keep you entertained!
Before leaving, I would like to join my bestie, Taylor, in encouraging you to vote in the upcoming election. And like Taylor, I strongly recommend that you check to see if you’re registered and, if you’re not, get registered!
Although I’ve not been around that long, it’s been lovely getting to know my Facebook friends. And it’s super awesome if you’re subscribed to Notes from Casa de Togo and will be following me on Substack! Encourage your friends to join us!3
By the way, I’ve been trying to figure out what “parting is such sweet sorrow” means. If you subscribe to Notes from Casa de Togo, I won’t have to find out. Blessings to all of you!4
I was already working an angle where Daddy would have to spend more time with me anyway. So I can see no good reason for him to leave social media.
This sentence is one that my lawyers insisted I include. It’s so silly. Everyone knows that there is no reason for you not to want to get emails from me.
Our last full day on Facebook is Friday, September 13. Sometime on Saturday, Daddy will do some interweb magic and we will disappear.
I should mention Daddy’s Substack, Distinct Impressions. It’s free, too — but only one-half, or an a good day, three-quarters as fun as mine. But still good. And free. Daddy wanted to point out that our subscription fees have not been impacted by inflation or Federal Reserve interest rates.
Of course you will be missed on Facebook, Mia, but I have already subscribed to that Substack thing. Please help Daddy out as much as you can; while he is a piece of work, he does need lots of support. You might be relatively new, but you can do this. Promise.
Oh Mia, have no fear, your followers are here. ❤️
