From time to time, I find it advantageous to disappear while hiding in plain sight. Of course, I am an 80-pound dog, so there is a decided degree of difficulty in disappearing.
Fortunately, I spend most of my time in the backyard. I’ve been studying clandestine techniques on the interweb and have discovered that an abundance of things that are outside are classic camouflage materials. In the spy world, we call those things assets. I think. I don’t really have my spy license yet, so that might not be quite right.
Mainly, we just have green bushes to hide in. Just to make sure we don’t have other assets, I did a walk-through of the entire property. But the bottom line is all I have to work with is green bushes.
The great thing about using green bushes to disappear is that there are a lot of things you can do while you are hiding in them. I mostly just sleep. Which is a good use of my time. But I tend to forget that I am supposed to be invisible and parts of me stick out.
And sometimes I don’t even make it into the bushes before I go to sleep.
While you are in hiding, you can gather intelligence on people. The only people who are in my backyard are Daddy and Momma and Jeremy. Since I already know just about everything about them, my intelligence-gathering isn’t very interesting. That’s one of the reasons I sleep a lot when I go undercover.
When I was doing my interweb searches, I did find a course on “how to camouflage.” It was an awesome learning experience. Here’s a picture of my final exam.
I got an “A” for that.
I’ve also figured out that even when I don’t get completely hidden, I can pretend that I am. It’s a very effective ploy.
The next time you’re outside and you get the feeling someone is watching, it’s probably just me hiding in the bushes. Before you complain your privacy is being violated, just remember: I’m probably asleep and your secrets are safe with me.
I know you’re into camouflage, but I can see you. Your exam picture was proof of how good you can be at hiding, but I can see clearly that when you get lazy or sleepy, you let your guard down and you can be seen. Keep learning; keep practicing. I do notice you’ve got that sleeping thing down.
