It’s really been hot this year. Everybody knows that.
I wear a fur coat every day of the year. In fact, I wear two. And I try my best to get rid of one of them when it turns warm. Many dogs share my fashion sense and try to address the advantages and disadvantages of having a topcoat and an undercoat.
Mommy and Daddy brush me every day with a special undercoat brush. It’s really more of a comb that reaches down and pulls on any loose undercoat fur. Mommy likes to get a big handful of fur and then show it to me. And if Daddy is around, she always asks if he wants to take a picture. He doesn’t. And that’s okay by me because I don’t grieve the loss of the undercoat fur in the warm seasons.
My undercoat fur is white. My topcoat fur is not. I don’t know if Daddy has undercoat fur. I’m pretty sure that if he once had it that it’s now gone. Actually, the fur he has is almost all white. So maybe he lost his topcoat along the way.
Obviously, the fur coat makes the hot weather worse. Mommy and Daddy have a nice comfy place for me inside and they spend a lot of time asking me to come inside. In fact, that’s Daddy’s main job now that he is retired. My special place is called a crate. And I like it for what it is, although I could have thought up a better name. The problem is what it isn’t.
It’s not outside. It’s not where I can walk around and stretch and run and do my business whenever I want. Yes, it’s a cooler place and a nice place to visit. It’s just not my favorite place.
My favorite place is outside, and my favorite time is when Momma or Daddy or Jeremy is outside with me. Like in this picture.
Daddy took the picture because I was really happy and asked him to. Daddy took it right after he took that first picture at the top of this story.
I was really happy because Daddy sat down with me. Outside. Yes, it was 106º and it was 8:30 at night.
But it was the cool place to be. Hanging out with people you love is always cool.
Hanging out with people you love is always cool, even when it is hot. Ask Daddy to tell you about the word suave; I think that word might fit you well.
