Togo Goes for Help
I’m really not equipped for hot weather. Anything above 60º is balmy by my calculation. But I live in West Texas. So you do what you can.
I adapt my life to accommodate for the weather here. I make Daddy get up real early in the morning so I can walk him. Sometimes I can get him to go before the sun rises in the morning. Generally, he likes sunlight. That’s a real problem when people begin changing the time and call it Daylight Savings Time. (We’ll talk more about that some day. But let me assure, as someone who doesn’t wear a watch, Daylight Savings Time doesn’t save daylight. It never needed saving.)
Sorry, I didn’t mean to get political.
Daddy likes to go on walks when the sun is like this. I like this time, too. When we go up to the university campus, we are much more likely to see the cats. I don’t think cats are particularly thrilled by West Texas weather either.
Daddy and I do agree that the sun can get too hot sometimes. Daddy showed me this on his phone yesterday. This means it was extra hot, even for West Texas. And it’s been that hot for well over a week. That causes a lot of problems.
When it’s hot like this, I spend a lot of time in my swing or in holes I dig in the flowerbed after the sprinklers come on. And I move really, really slow. And . . . I drink a lot of water. But I manage.
The other night, I told Daddy he should look at the sun. This is what we saw.
At that exact moment, we didn’t realize that this was because a big fire had started south of town. And this was the sun trying to shine through the smoke. And the air had little ashes in it. The sun shouldn’t look like this. People and animals are losing their homes in that fire. Many more have packed bags that sit by the door in case the fire comes to their house and they have to leave.
That’s why I’m coming to you for help. Daddy says there was an old TV show that he watched called “Lassie.” Somehow, almost every week, Lassie’s boy, Timmy, got into a bad situation. Daddy can’t remember for sure, but he thinks it almost always involved Timmy falling into a well. And Timmy would tell Lassie to go get help.
Daddy hasn’t fallen into a well. But he told me that I should go get help. So I’m right in front of you asking.
Your prayers are needed. Pray for the safety of people, animals, and brave firefighters. Pray for rain. And since I stay up with the news, I would really like it if you prayed for people and animals caught in wars they didn’t ask for. And sick people. And little babies who can’t get formula. And those who are hungry and homeless. And people and animals you love. And people you don’t think you love. (We all love animals, so that’s not a problem.)
You can help a lot if you just love. And pray.
