Nikki drove Togo to his hotel, the Hotel Parq Central, on I-25 across from Presbyterian Hospital.
“I have several things to follow up on,” Nikki said as she opened the trunk for the bell person to get his luggage. “Let’s plan on getting together first thing in the morning to go through our notes and see where we are.”
Togo nodded his agreement, “Good night, Nikki.”
The local S.H.E.D. office had already checked him in and the desk manager on duty escorted him directly to his room.
“I think you’ll be comfortable here, Mr. Togo,” the manager said. “If there’s anything you need, please call the number on this card. Or stop by the concierge desk. We are honored to have you staying with us.”
“So happy to be here,” Togo replied. The manager didn’t move toward the door and Togo realized he was probably waiting for a tip. “Wait right there, my good man! I have something for you.”
Not having pockets, Togo sauntered over to his duffel bag and unzipped the side pocket. “Let’s see. I know my wallet is here somewhere.” Nosing through the jumble of doggie treats and essential vitamins, Togo came up empty on the wallet.
“Hmm, I seemed to have misplaced my wallet,” Togo explained.
“Oh, no worries, sir. A gratuity is unnecessary,” the manager began.
“No, no. You’ve been so kind,” Togo said. “Here take this bag of training snacks. They are bite size and sugar-free. Ugh. All I have left are the liver-flavored ones. Well, they’re good for you. Swallow them whole while holding your breath. I’ve had a measure of success with that.”
Togo pushed the bag of treats into the manager’s hand and gently nudged him to the door. “Thanks again!”
Togo grabbed a quick shower and then headed to the lounge on the rooftop of the Hotel Parq Central. The view was spectacular. Togo ordered a bowl of water and told the server to keep them coming. He had some thinking to do and it was going to be a long night.
He was gathering up the contents of his file when a photo fell to the floor. Togo gasped and quickly slid the photo back into the folder before anyone seated near him could catch a glimpse.
“Well, Ms. Nikki,” Togo smiled. “You certainly have some explaining to do.”
Mr Togo has amazing dexterity with those meaty paws!
