It was eerie. Daddy and I were on our walk on campus. And nobody was there. We didn’t see cars in the library parking lot or students walking to class or smell the breakfast smells at the World Famous Bean.
We didn’t even see any of the feral cats — and we walked right by four feeding stations!
So quiet you could hear my paws crunching on the fallen cypress leaves.
I thought we had wandered into a bad episode of the Twilight Zone. Daddy pointed out that we were still seeing in color and the original Twilight Zone was in black and white. If Daddy knows about anything, it’s about old TV shows.
(And no, dogs are not totally color blind. We can see blue and yellow. However, being red and green color blind, you wouldn’t want me deciding when to cross a busy intersection based on a traffic light. Or make me a judge at the Christmas parade.)
Daddy used to work at the university, so I turned to him for answers.
“Fall Break,” he said. “Everyone’s on Fall Break.”
It sounded reasonable to me although I have no clue what feral cats do for Fall Break.
We walked on a while in silence.
“We should go on Fall Break some day,” I said.
”Let me know when,” Daddy countered.
When.
This is it! I’m on Fall Break today.
But, like the cats on campus, I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do.
So I guess I’ll take Daddy on a walk. Not even Fall Break can keep us from that.
Come with us.
How often can this break happen? Are there any rules about frequency?
Give me a break!
