I’ve been listening to the news a lot in the past few weeks. Daddy says that this is an unprecedented time in history so I’m getting up to speed on the situation.
It seems to me we need to encourage our own government to get its act together. I’ve been closely watching the U.S. House of Representatives recently. I’m new at government affairs, but I’m pretty sure that those folks up there don’t even have an act. They are certainly not together. The strange thing is that they should know that good governance depends on people working together.
Daddy says it’s pretty clear that many of the Senators and Representatives either failed Civics when they were in school or are so old that they can’t remember what it is they are supposed to be doing. Daddy can be harsh. I prefer a more positive spin on things.
That’s why I’m putting my name forward to be the Speaker of the House. I have a lot of positives going for me. And evidently you don’t have to be a member of the House to be Speaker.
I work with other people and get along. That can-do attitude is the reason that Daddy and I have done so well as a team. He’s a pretty good guy, but I’m the real power behind our partnership. Here are some reasons why.
I’m a good listener. In fact, you can talk to me all day long and it’s fine with me. You can even say things that I don’t agree with and I won’t get upset. Daddy says that’s because I don’t really listen and do whatever I want no matter what anyone says. He may have a point, but I have other positive traits. And I couldn’t be any worse than the folks in Congress now.
I’m non-partisan. I just want everything to work to help out other people. And dogs. In fact, I am so inclusive that I’m in favor of cats, too. And fish and gerbils and goats and pigs and other pets. Oh, and birds. Some of my best friends are birds.
I have a calming effect on people. You can just see their tension melt when they sit beside me and I roll over for scratches and pats. Imagine what I could accomplish on the floor of the House just walking around and hanging out.
I can tell the truth. I challenge you to find a single instance when I didn’t. I’m not totally certain, but I think that a lot of people in Washington have a problem with this. Or they think that honesty doesn’t apply to social media.
I try to look nice and act nice. I think that’s important for someone who is a leader. You don’t have to be handsome or beautiful. But you do need to take care of yourself. That’s why I walk Daddy every single day. He complains a lot and he doesn’t really look all that great. However, he is still moving and that counts for something. He’s not even running for office. And Daddy says that looking nice shows respect and that we don’t have enough of that in Washington.
I have good legislative ideas. For example, I am for taking care of people. And not killing people. And helping people get jobs. And for effective education. (I’ve talked to quite a few youngsters in my time and we have some fine ones. But some of them are struggling because we’re spending too much on things that don’t matter. Like trying to alter history by banning books.)
That reminds me. I’m a fiscal conservative who believes in sharing. Daddy tells me that I have an abundance mentality. It’s true. I’m always up for another serving of kibble or a doggie treat. And I’ll share with anyone who sits around my bowl.
I’d make a good Speaker. I have a big voice and I’m not afraid to use it. I really don’t try to be intimidating but people seem to notice when I come running at them with wild abandon. I’ve watch C-SPAN. Representatives do a lot of standing around and scheming. I’m pretty sure I could round them up and get them headed the right way. Or scare them a bit.
I care about the United States of America. Daddy says that our country isn’t living into its full potential. I think it’s because of a lack of effective leash laws. And not just for dogs. Seems to me that a bunch of our elected officials could benefit from a little discipline.
So, do me a favor and let your Congressman or Congresswoman know that I’m available to lead them out of this mess. And time’s a wasting. We have business to do!
TOGO for Speaker of the House!
I like this campaign. Will napping be allowed as a show of support?
I'd vote for Togo in a heartbeat. I hope it's OK that I shared his info on Facebook. People need to know what a truly qualified, non- partisan candidate stands for. On four feet.
