It appears to me this has mushroomed out of control.

Mr. Roger,

You are totally correct on that one! We may need you to lead a southwesterly task force to help contain this problem.

I notice that, since her departure back to her family, foster dog Delilah has not been here to control the squirrel population, and we have many more critters now. But at least we don't have midnight visits to backdoor neighbors to retrieve a possum chasing boxer anymore. The neighbors are happy.

I always enjoyed Joey’s humor but he is totally outclassed here. Keep it up!

Now I know who/what disappeared the giant puffballs in my front yard!

Mr. Bob,

The threat is real! Daddy is feeling amphibious (or it might be ambivalent) about the situation. On one hand, the squirrels are helping remove the mushrooms from the yard. On the other, their tendency to tear them to shreds distributes spores and produces more mushrooms.

For now, I'm heeding the advice of many a law enforcement officer before me: Follow the money! I've got my eye on these two and if I start seeing evidence of unexplained wealth like gold chains and gold teeth, I'm moving in!

Take care up there in the northlands!

Have any names been changed to protect the innocent in this story?

Mr. Les,

Because of the dire nature of this disruption. we have chosen to fully disclose all the facts we have. So the names are real. Since publication of this notice, the two suspects in questions have largely disappeared. (I would say they went "underground," but that might confuse readers into thinking they are ground squirrels.) Having been around shady characters like this, I wouldn't be surprised if the names we've been giving aren't aliases, too. Be careful, that new squirrel in your yard may not be who you think it is.

Just highlights the need for vigilance -- and an appreciation of what humor is available to make a desperate situation bearable.

I know that you and Shadow will be watching for infiltrators in Missouri. This could become a nationwide threat!
